Cane mills mean a simpler time for me. They bring forth images of friends and families working cooperatively in community-oriented low-impact subsistence farming. Many mills, like many plants, remind me of particular people who have gone on. Some of the descriptions on the other pages will reveal these nostalgic connections to the past.

Above 3-Different views of a Woodruff power mill as it appeared before I purchased it from Mr. Robert Gay of Boneville, GA. Although it is badly worn, it is such a beautiful piece of old iron that I could not resist the temptation to buy it.
Left; Mr. Gay used a 3-compartment stainless steel pan to cook sorghum syrup. Each divider has a small door, about 3 x 3 inches, that allows juice to move between the compartments. I plan to refashion the pan before putting it to use.
