| Comments:During my downsizing following Nedra's death, I ran across this amortization schedule. It captured the essence of our 54-year marriage. We worked together tirelessly to establish our homestead. The house we built was above our means, but by doing much of the work ourselves, and competitively sourcing materials, we (all four of us) were able to build it for about 2/3 of its appraised value following construction. The writing is in Nedra's hand, but paying off the house was a joint project. Every month, we evaluated how much we could spare on extra principal. Some months, none; some months, we paid down several months. Doing that and refinancing at every opportunity we were able to own our home several years sooner than on-time payments would have done. We were lucky to find a partner whose mindsets matched. I could not have done better and I know it. |
